This week the Barnsdall Chamber of Commerce met for their second meeting for the month of January and on the agenda for the meeting was a special presentation from Cecilia Hibdon regarding the on-line capabilities of the Barnsdall Library. Unfortunately, Hibdon recently had a death in the family and was unable to make it to the meeting this month, she has rescheduled for the 2nd February meeting.
During the meeting, Lee Perry, Lake Manager from the Army Corps of Engineers discussed several plans for Birch lake in the coming months. Currently, there are plans to hold a Triathlon at Birch Lake in June, Perry would like to set up volunteer work days, and they are working towards incorporating new electric boxes into the camping areas. Additionally, the Corps is looking for volunteers willing to stay at Birch Lake and assist with park maintenance. Volunteers should contact park manager Stan Bell with any questions at (918)396-3170. Upcoming events in Barnsdall include a Red Cross Blood Drive on February 17 from 11am to 5pm, the 50+ Dinner and Bingo Night on February 18 at 5:30pm, and the 4th Annual Lions Club Chili Cook-off on February 20 from 11am to 1pm. The Barnsdall Chamber will meet next on February 9, with a special presentation from Lakeside Chiropractic and Rehab. A Hominy man charged with Child Abuse by Injury entered a guilty plea on Wednesday, January 27. Osage County deputies arrested 39-year-old Matthew Gilley on February 26, 2015 after he called law enforcement to report that he had found a two-year-old girl unresponsive. The child was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa where she underwent emergency surgery for bleeding on the brain. Upon further investigation, injuries were found on the child's eye, back, chest and abdomen. Gilley's bond remains at $250,000. He has no other felony convictions. Sentencing is set for April 5, in Osage County Court.
The two Pawhuska men charged in connection with the death of well known Pawhuska oilman Rick Holt were in Osage County Court Tuesday afternoon for a Motion to Dismiss hearing.
19 Year-Old Tyler Reece and 31 Year-Old Jeremy Reece were arrested in on September 9, 2015 and have been charged with First Degree Murder, Kidnapping, Conspiracy to Commit a Felony, and Desecration of a Human Corpse. Tyler Reece admitted to investigators in September that he an his brother drove to Holt's home September 5, 2015 and in a altercation killed Holt and took his body to an Oil Lease in Osage County to bury him. Osage County Sheriffs discovered and exhumed Holt's remains on September 9. The Defendant's attorneys Gretchen Mosley, Adam Haselgren, and Peter Astor filed a Motion for Dismissal in November siting the County did not have jurisdiction over the case as the alleged crime took place on Tribal Land. For the State of Oklahoma, Assistant District Attorney Mike Fisher stipulated that the brothers are enrolled in the Muskogee Creek Nation and were not eligible for trial under the Osage Nation. Judge Stuart Tate took the State's and the Defendant's evidence into consideration and will make a judgment on March 29 at 1pm. Pawhuska Police Department completed investigation of an incident that occurred on 12th Street off Lynn Ave in Pawhuska this morning. The Police concluded that a 46 Year-Old man was flown to a Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa in critical condition after receiving a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The man is now reported in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery.
This week at the meeting of the Osage County Board of County Commissioners, the commissioners approved the purchase of a new tractor for District 3, approved the construction of a sand barn for District 2 and discussed the upcoming budget shortfalls.
Kyme Vincent the Osage County Nutrition Program Director spoke to the Commissioners regarding the upcoming fiscal year 2017 budget and the impact it could have on the program. The Nutrition Program is looking at $51,303 or 12.5 percent in funding cuts in the FY17 budget, and the impacts of these cuts could likely effect infrastructure and operations. Vincent said that after working on the books they will end up with around $7,000 in deficit and will be unable to hire additional personnel. According to Vincent the program should be able to fulfill their current responsibilities under the new budget, however, if they take any additional cuts they will need to begin layoffs. Reece's sons, Jeremy and Tyler, were arrested on September 9 on charges of Murder in the first degree, conspiracy to commit murder, kidnapping, and desecration of a human corpse. The two son's are scheduled for a Motion Hearing on January 26, 2016 at 1pm. Former Pawhuska Basketball Coach Chad Kills Crow has been suspended and is facing a Dismissal Hearing from Pawhuska Schools District. On January 7, 2016 the Pawhuska Board of Education held a special meeting to determine a date for the hearing; Kills Crow was placed on paid suspension over the Holiday break.
40 Year-Old Kills Crow has had a history of Alcohol related offenses since he began employment with the Pawhuska Public Schools District in June 2015. Kills Crow most recently was arrested on January 19, 2016 and has been charges with DUI, Failure to Maintain Security, and Careless Driving as well as felony charges of Assault and Battery on a Corrections Officer and Placing Bodily Fluids on a Government Employee. Previously, Kills Crow has been arrested in December, October, and August of 2015 on alcohol related offenses. The Dismissal Hearing has been set for February 29, with the Pawhuska Board of Education. Kills Crow will have a Status Conference in Osage County Court on February 25, 2015. On the agenda for the Tuesday meeting was Clair Wood, from the Osage Nation, to discuss the Donation of the Osage County Fairgrounds Woman's Building and Clarence Brantley Indoor Arena for the Young Child Event, April 13, 2016. The Commissioners agreed to donation. Myron Red Eagle was also on the agenda this week to discuss the Windmills in Osage County. However, Red Eagle was unable to attend. Osage County District Attorney Rex Duncan also added the item was not appropriate for public session. The ramainder of the meeting was utilized taking care of administrative items including the signing of a contract with RECtec for High Speed Fiber Internet for the Osage County Courthouse, which was approved for $1,300 a month. The Osage County Board of County Commissioners will next meet Monday, January 25, at the Osage County Courthouse in Pawhuska at 10am. |
