The Community Development Department has ruled that no building construction will be allowed at the Southwest Corner of Adams Blvd. and Silver Lake Rd. because the site lies in the flood way of the Caney River. This area is commonly referred to as “The Old Marie’s Steakhouse.”
Big Lots will be moving to the Old Hobby Lobby store in the Eastland Shopping Center. The Community Development Department has not received any permit applications regarding plans for the soon to be open Big Lots store on Frank Phillips Blvd. The Discount Tire Store at the Silver Lake Shopping Center is still under construction, but a target date for completion hasn’t been announced. There will be an art driven fundraiser to support Pawhuska Public School teachers next week at 617 Kihekah Ave. in Pawhuska.
The fundraiser starts on Thursday and runs through Saturday. There will be an artist reception for students and parents on Thursday evening from 5-7. On Friday, doors open at 6:15 and a live auction starts at 6:45. On Saturday, the gallery will be open to the public. All proceeds raised will benefit Pawhuska teachers. The Osage County Commissioners will meet Monday morning at the Osage County Courthouse for a regular scheduled meeting.
Among other things, the County Commissioners will talk about the way county employees get drug tested. This item was tabled last week because the Commissioners would like to hear from Osage Emergency Manager Jerry Roberts to get more information on the subject. The County Commissioners will also consider reappointing Bruce Gerhold and Leslie Bias to the Osage County Planning Commission. If Gerhold and Bias get reappointed, they will serve a four-year term ending Dec. 1, 2022. The meeting begins at 10 o’ clock in the morning for those interested in attending. The Pawhuska Chamber of Commerce will host a coffee roundup on Friday, Nov. 30 at the Pioneer Woman Mercantile-Bakery. Guests are invited to drop in between 7:45 and 9:45 in the morning.

Candidates wanting to run for a municipal office in the city of Pawhuska or a board of education position in any Osage County School District must file their declaration between the time of Monday, Dec. 3 beginning at 8 a.m. and Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 5 p.m.
Wards 1 and 2 will each be accepting declarations of candidacy for three year terms. The school districts of Anderson, Avant, Barnsdall, Bowring, Hominy, McCord, Osage Hills, Pawhuska, Prue, Shidler, Woodland and Wynona all have school board seats opening up. The primary election is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2019 and the general election will be Tuesday, April 2, 2019. Phillips 66 has awarded a grant to the Bartlesville Public Library and they will use it to get new furniture for the Youth Services Department.
A library building renovation project began nearly three years ago and in that time two reading houses have been installed on the east side of the building. The reading houses can accommodate up to three children at once. In early 2019, more renovations will take place to the Youth Service Department. Shelves will be rearranged to maximize space, which will create reading nooks and expand the Teen area in hopes of providing a stimulating environment for learning. The Osage Nation Prevention Office will be having plenty of fun on Saturday, Dec. 1 at the Osage County Fairgrounds.
The Osage Nation Prevention Program will present a “Charlie Brown Christmas” at the Agriculture Building from 9 o’ clock to 8:30. There will be a holiday market from 9 to 3 and the Parade of Lights begins at 5:30. Activities include ornament decorating, face painting, Christmas Caroling and writing Dear Santa letters.
