The district championship game between Pawhuska and Pawnee lived up to the billing, as the Black Bears hung on for a 46-40 victory. Despite the loss, Pawhuska coach Matt Hennesy was proud of his teams performance.
On the opening possession of the game, Pawhuska had a 71 yard drive that resulted in a five yard touchdown pass from Bryce Drummond to Cade McNeil, but Pawnee went on to score the next 34 points. A second touchdown pass to McNeil with six minutes left in the third quarter trimmed the lead to 34-12. Drummond went on to score on back-to-back quarterback keepers including this one that trimmed the lead to 40-32 midway through the fourth quarter. Each team would exchange touchdowns, but with two minutes left, Pawnee was able to run out the clock and preserve the victory. Pawhuska hosts Oklahoma Union in the first round of playoffs on Friday.
