After a drop in classification, Friday night will mark the first ever eight-man football game for the Barnsdall Panthers. Coach Kylee Sweeney is excited about the 23 players he has on the roster this year, 14 of which are seniors. Six returners are back on defense and while a quarterback battle ensues between Keegan Marin and Josh Weber, Sweeney says this experience should be a benefit at the Class B level.
Sweeney added that the group of players returning on this years team should have gained a lot of experience after last seasons run to the Class A state quarterfinals. In the last two weeks, Barnsdall has had scrimmages against Wesleyan Christian School and Regent Prep, a runner up for the Class B State Championship in the last two years. Sweeney said the Panthers were able to contend with Regent Prep and that should give them confidence heading into week one's contest against Foyil. Friday night's game at Foyil is scheduled for 7 p.m. Comments are closed.
