Tuesday, at the June meeting of the Barnsdall Chamber of Commerce, Chamber President Claude Rosendale discussed this year's very successful Big Heart Day. Although the Chamber went into the 63rd Annual Big Heart Day approximately $3,000 short in donations, as compared to previous years, the event was able to net more than $7,000 for the community of Barnsdall. By far the most successful event this year was the Fishing Tournament at Lake Waxhoma which expected around 80 to 90 competitors and received more than 130. The event ran out of fishing spots and parking before it ran out of prizes. Plans are in place to expect 200 competitors next year.
Rosendale also reminded the chamber that this Saturday, June 18, from 10 to 12:30 is the Lions Club Shotgun Training & Education Program, or STEP, at the Pharaoh Ranch at 728 CR 2530. The event is sponsored by the Barnsdall Community Lions Club and will host skeet shooting, archery, and BB gun training. Boy Scouts from Cherokee Area Council will be hosting the BB and Archery training and the event is free. The Barnsdall Chamber will meet again July 12 at the Barnsdall Community Center at Noon.
