A 29 Year-Old Arkansas woman died from heat-related injury Monday in Pawhuska. Meaghan Blair was serving as an adult supervisor for the Osage Prairie Pioneer Trek, an event hosted by the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter-Day Saints.
During the event, participants dress in traditional 1800s pioneer attire, sing, dance, and hike for many miles to learn about the Mormon Pioneer exodus. The original exodus was from Nauvoo, Illinois to now Salt Lake City, Utah.
Blair has not been the only heat-related casualty from the camp, five minors were taken by EMS for treatment last week, three of which were unconscious at the time EMS arrived.
According to the Latter-day Saints website, the Osage Prairie Trek provides handcarts and water for participants, each handcart must carry 10 gallons of water to accompany participants.
Blair was at the end of the groups seven mile hike when she collapsed and began seizing from heat stroke. Blair is survived by her husband and two children.
