The Board of Osage County Commissioners will meet Monday morning at the Osage County Courthouse in Pawhuska for a regular scheduled meeting.
Jerry Roberts will be at the meeting discussing the disaster proclamation that Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt granted Osage County for the storms that hit the area from May 7th through June 9th. Executive Director for Osage County Tourism, Kelly Bland, will be on hand asking for additional funding requests from the commissioners. Bland is hoping to make improvements to the “Visit the Osage” website. The initial setup cost would be up to $5,000. There will also be discussion regarding possibly taking quotes for bathroom tile in the women’s building at the Osage County Fairgrounds in Pawhuska. The meeting begins at 10 o' clock in the morning for those interested in attending. From sun up to sundown, the Cavalcade Rodeo in Pawhuska has plenty of events that will keep any rodeo fan entertained. The fun continues well into the night each evening though with plenty of music to keep you entertained at the Osage County Fairgrounds. Social Media Coordinator for the event, Kaci Bute, tells us what to expect.
Cavalcade is the world's largest amateur rodeo. With that comes a long history of great music being played at the event. Kyle Park will perform Thursday evening. Cody Canada and the Departed will play on Friday evening and William Clark Green will play on Saturday. Ticket prices vary for each evening's performance. The Osage County Sheriff’s Office has arrested Zachary Pace and Megan Ball in connection with a murder that occurred in Fairfax yesterday morning where a woman was found dead in her home.
At around 9 o' clock Wednesday morning, the Fairfax Police Department contacted the Sheriff's Office requesting assistance in the investigation of the suspicious death of 60-year old Heather Neuman. She was found deceased in her home, located at 132 N. Park Street. Upon arrival, they noted that the victim's car was gone, along with her ID and financial documents. Pace was identified as a person of interest, as he has been staying with Neuman for the past several weeks. Ball was also identified as a person of interest when investigators saw that Neuman's credit cards had been used in local businesses. Deputies learned that Pace may have been in the Locust Grove area Wednesday evening. Cherokee County investigators found Pace, Ball, along with the victim's car at a residence. Pace and Ball were taken into custody at the Cherokee County Detention Center where they are currently being held. This continues to be an ongoing investigation. If you have any information, contact the Osage County Sheriff's Office at 918-287-3131. Pawhuska Public Schools will be holding its special school bond election on Tuesday, Sep. 10. At a previous school board meeting, it was announced that this bond would be focused on transportation.
Election Board Secretary Kelly Chouteau says if you wish to vote on this bond issue, the last day for voter registration is Friday, Aug. 16. Choteau said people who have never been registered to vote or those who need to change their registration information can apply by filling out and mailing an Oklahoma Voter Registration Application form by Aug. 16. The County Election Board responds in writing to every person who submits an application. Each person will either receive a voter identification card or a letter explaining why his or her registration was denied. If a person hasn’t received a response within 30 days, he or she should contact the County Election Board at 918-287-3036 or email OsageCounty@elections.ok.gov. Precincts 102, 103, 110, 111, 113, 301 and 306 will be closed for the vote in Osage County. Voters in those precincts can send in absentee ballots or vote in person, though. Registration forms are also available at the County Election Board Office at 630 Kihekah Ave. in Pawhuska, along with most post offices, tag agencies and public libraries. The Skiatook Chamber of Commerce is holding its Third Thursday in the Park event this evening and Thomas Martinez will be performing at the Skiatook Central Park.
Inflatables, vendors and food trucks will be on hand. The event runs from 7-10, but the food trucks will open up at 5. Businesses and community organizations are encouraged to participate so that they can showcase their products and services. Osage County is one of 41 counties that has been approved for public assistance from storms that hit the area from May 7th through June 9th. Osage County Emergency Manager Jerry Roberts says there has been an estimated 22 million dollars worth of damage done to the county and this will be a big help to begin rebuilding the infrastructure throughout the county.
At Monday's Board of Osage County Commissioners meeting, Roberts let the board know the county had also been approved for assistance from the storms that hit the area in late April. These storms created 7 million dollars worth of damage. Roberts says he expects to start in the city of Avant first. He added that it is important to continue working on the roads before school starts in August. Cavalcade 2019 has officially kicked off at the Osage County Fairgrounds in Pawhuska. The events started on Tuesday and included a Street Dance in Downtown Pawhuska. Social Media Coordinator for the Cavalcade Rodeo, Kaci Bute, says that went very well.
There will be rodeo events going on at the outdoor arena throughout Sunday and Bute says the start to each evening will be very special. Cavalcade is the world's largest amateur rodeo. It is to late to sign up for most events, but Bute says she is looking forward to watching one event in which there is still time for you to sign up. Cavalcade's Facebook page will also be broadcasting live this evening. Children ages 5 and under get in free. Ages 6-12 are admitted for $3 and those ages 12 and up are admitted for $5. Prices for the nightly concert varies each night. |
