In observance of Veterans Day on Monday, the Osage County Commissioners moved its regular scheduled board meeting back to Tuesday morning at the Osage County Courthouse.
There were many items that got tabled last week and the County Commissioners will begin talking about them once again this week. Kurt Bickel of the Indian Nations Council of Governments, will be at the meeting to discuss the possibility of moving the 911 department to the Sheriff’s Office. This came about after Sheriff Eddie Virden and Kay Kelley, Director of Osage County E911, came to the conclusion it would be best to hear from Bickel in regards to the possible move. Larry Bergner will give a health department update, as Marilyn Cooper made it known in citizens input last week that she wasn’t pleased with how things were operating at the health department. After approving the use of an oversite committee for EMS last week, the County Commissioners will now take action on assembling members of the committee. There will also be possible action taken to improve security in Judge Kane’s Chamber area. The meeting starts at 10 a.m. at the Osage County Courthouse for those interested in attending. The Skiatook Chamber of Commerce will have its “Thanks 4 Giving” meal on Wednesday from noon to one. The lunch will take place at 940 W. Oak Street, inside the First Baptist Church of Skiatook. Cost is $7 per person.

There will be area restaurants in Bartlesville offering promotions and discounts for Veterans and all active-duty service members on Veterans Day this Sunday.
Rib Crib will be offering a free dine-in meal with a choice of two meats and one side. Mazzios will offer a small, two-topping pizza free of charge. That offer is good for dine-in only. Buffalo Wild Wings is offering a free order of small boneless or traditional wings for all Veterans and active-duty service members. Veterans and active duty military members can eat free of charge at Golden Corral on Monday, Nov. 12 from 5-9 in the evening. Veterans and current military service members have the opportunity to get a free haircut at Great Clips on Sunday. The Pawhuska cheer squad placed sixth out of 30 in the Class 2A Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association Game Day State Competition.
The girls competed in three preliminary rounds and earned a first place finish in fight song to make the finals. Seniors on the team include Cassidi Hindman, Maddy Burd and Kiana Taylor. Juniors include Shelby Bute, Alyssa Reynalds, Tatyana Curry and Katie Mathes. Bobbi Walker, Jozelyn Brace, Haley Grooms, Arianna Soliano, Cadi McLain, Lili Jones, Karlie Long and Ne’Vaeh Taylor are all under The Pawhuska football team will be having a sendoff this afternoon at 4 p.m. as they travel to take on Rejoice Christian.
The Huskies will leave the locker room and turn south on Lynn Avenue before hitting 9th street and going south on Kihekah. The bus will then turn east at the Triangle Building on Highway 60 and head to Rejoice Christian. The public and local businesses alike are encouraged to be outside to cheer on the Huskies as they travel to take on the Eagles. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Owasso. Pawhuska Public Schools will hold a regular scheduled school board meeting Monday evening inside the Administration Building.
The board will vote to approve many things on the agenda, including the 2018-2019 financial audit, which will be presented by Sanders, Bledsoe and Hewett. The board will also vote to approve the educational improvement grant. There will be discussion and possible action regarding an agreement with the test of economic literacy or TEL for online concurrent enrollment. The board will also vote to approve the Bright Arrow Messaging System for the 2019 school year. The board will also vote to use FanCloth as a way for the boys junior high basketball team and the high school soccer team to sell apparel and do a fundraiser. The meeting starts at 5:30 for those interested in attending. The Osage Veterans Memorial Commission will help the Osage Nations Museum in Pawhuska unveil a new memorial honoring veterans this Sunday. Maria DeRoin, the Osage Veterans Memorial Consultant and Central Communications Coordinator, says it has been fun watching the project come along.
DeRoin says she expects the memorial to look very nice when it is completed on Sunday. For anyone interested in coming to the unveiling, it starts at 9:30 a.m. at 819 Grandview Ave. in Pawhuska. Animal Park Operator and former Gubernatorial candidate Joseph “Joe Exotic” Maldonado-Passage is now facing 21 charges, including shooting and killing animals at his park, according to the News on 6.
According to court documents, Maldonado-Passage is being indicted on several violations of the Endangered Species Act, along with the Lacey Act, which is related to Maldonado-Passage working at the Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park. Court documents state that in order to make room for “big cats,” Maldonado-Passage would empty cages by shooting and killing endangered lions and tigers. In early September, Maldonado-Passage was indicted for allegedly hiring an unnamed person to murder a Florida woman. Maldanado-Passage is currently in custody at the Grady County Jail. His trail date has been set for Dec. 4. The Bartlesville Convention and Visitors Bureau met for a special meeting Wednesday afternoon and discussed the importance of tourism here in Bartlesville. Board member Maria Swindell Gus says she isn’t seeing as much traffic on the website and on Facebook, butshe doesn’t think it’s anything to be concerned about.
Gus says she is trying to find ways to make the Convention and Visitors Bureau more visible on Facebook. Gus says that despite the rain, the Bartlesville Ghost Walk was a success. The Bureau approved a $1,500 grant to be used by the Bartlesville Regional Chamber of Commerce for Christmas in the Ville. Christmas in the Ville begins Friday, Nov. 30. Osage County Commissioner Kevin Paslay recently got back from the Association of County Commissioners of Oklahoma Conference in Norman and Paslay says he learned a lot of valuable information.
Paslay said his main takeaway was the opioid workshop he attended. Paslay believes after going to this conference, he knows how to better manage the opioid problem facing Osage County. Paslay attends these conferences every three months. |
