The City of Pawhuska and the Pawhuska School District held a leadership meeting earlier in the month and discussed shared goals and priorities, where a renewed commitment to work and communicate in a more efficient and positive manner, was made.
In a joint press release, the Pawhuska School District and the City of Pawhuska, stated that their top priority is campus and student safety, and they are committed to do whatever it takes to improve campus and student safety. The group states that they will be meeting together in the future to come up with a plan to enhance and improve campus and student safety. At the April meeting of the Pawhuska City Council the board approved the ground lease which was the basis of a previous special meeting, and made a decision regarding city hiring policy.
During the March 23 special meeting the City Council table action regarding the ground lease for the new P Town Pizza and Townmaker LLC building. The ground lease was required to build the overhanging balcony and the required supports which sit of city property. The ground lease also approved the space in the Pocket Park for a stairwell which will lead to the second floor of the P Town Pizza building. The council did however take no action on a similar ground lease on the East side of Kihekah, as the balcony has yet to be approved by Fire Marshall. Current city policy required city employees to live within 10 miles of the city municipality which has created issues finding qualified workers. At the meeting Tuesday the council decided to amend the policy to state that employees would need to live within 30 minute recall of Pawhuska, the change will open up an opportunity for the city to find qualified and certified employees. The Pawhuska City Council meets the first Tuesday on each month at the Pawhuska City Hall. Osage County voters made their voices heard at the polls Tuesday and decided several school bonds and a School Board elections.
In Pawhuska there was a run-off election for seat #3 on the Pawhuska Public Schools Board. Scott Laird lead the night outing the Incumbent Danny Ferguson with 52.30 percent of the vote totaling 364 votes to 332. Sperry voters passed two school bond propositions totaling more than $12 million for improvements which include replacing roofs, replacing HVAC units, expanding and renovating the District’s weight/athletic locker room facility, renovating a portion of the bus barn to create an area for FFA students to house livestock and much more. The two propositions passed with 82.27 percent and 80.85 percent. Avant voters also passed two propositions totaling more than $500,000 which will help the school replace the floor in the main building, build a new classroom and renovate others, renovate restrooms, replace electrical, and see the purchase of a new bus and new 12 passenger van. The proposition passed with 88.9 percent of the vote. Lastly, Barnsdall residents passed a $6.3 million dollar School Bond which will see the construction of a new Athletic Facility, mandatory repairs to the gym's sprinkler system, and numerous other maintenance projects which have been neglected due to severe budget cuts over the past ten years. The school bond passed by 73.24 percent. |
